Lenore Skenazy

Show host for Bubble Wrap Kids:

Dubbed 'America’s Worst Mom' by the international press for letting her nine-year-old ride the New York City subway by himself, newspaper columnist Lenore Skenazy was catapulted into the parenting spotlight. Her feisty response was a blog, and best-selling book, Free-Range Kids: How to Raise Safe, Self-Reliant Children (Without Going Nuts with Worry). Her modern-day manifesto helps overprotective parents loosen the reins and give their children back their childhoods.

Lecturing all over the world, from the Sydney Opera House to a convention of bus drivers in Portland, Oregon, Skenazy has found receptive audiences—as well as angry detractors— everywhere she goes. A controversy magnet, she’s been featured on countless shows including Dr. Phil, The View, The Today Show, and CNN, all eager to hear more about her anti-'helicopter parenting' philosophy. She has also written for everyone from The Wall Street Journal to Mad Magazine.

Building on her belief that kids today are safer and more competent than pop culture leads us to believe, Skenazy also founded 'Take Our Children to the Park…And Leave Them There Day', an event that is now celebrated internationally.

Married to her grade-school crossing guard, Skenazy and her husband live in New York City with their subway-taking sons Morry and Izzy.
