Cameras roll on Animals at Work New series in production for BBC

New Cineflix Creative Director Rob Carey announced today that production has begun on a CBBC series Animals at Work, the company’s first foray into children’s programming for the BBC.

Animals at Work (26 x 30 minutes) will introduce young viewers to the amazing world of animals with jobs, and is set to air on CBBC in the UK and Discovery HD in Canada. Hosted by John Barrowman, star of Doctor Who, Torchwood and BBC and BBC One’s hit talent show How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? the series will feature incredible animals, from musical elephants to a school for buffalos.

“Animals at Work is a hilarious look at amazing stories of working animals from around the world. We are thrilled to have a global star in John Barrowman fronting this show and we can’t wait for it to hit the screens.” said Rob Carey.

“Animals at Work will be tracking down some extraordinary animals with incredible skills which make our lives easier, safer or simply more interesting.  I know this series will go down particularly well with CBBC viewers as, with John Barrowman in charge, it’s going to be both highly entertaining and informative” said Anne Gilchrist, Controller CBBC.


Rob, recently appointed as Creative Director for Cineflix, is overseeing Animals at Work for the company, in addition to the development and creative vision of the company’s entire range of programs worldwide. 

Rob is also continuing in his previous role as the company’s Head of Factual Entertainment, responsible for Cineflix’s growing slate of programming including World’s Greenest Homes, Colin & Justin’s Home Heist, Property Virgins, The Unsellables, and Kim’s Rude Awakenings - in addition to new formats For Rent, and Eat Yourself Sexy with Gillian MacKeith.

Before joining Cineflix last year, Rob was Head of Factual Entertainment for At It Productions, and Creative Director for Mentorn Productions. Rob recently won the Rose D’Or in Montreaux for his CBBC format Hider In The House and co-creator and Executive Producer of Britain’s Worst Driver and the highly successful Worst… franchise. 

An accomplished actor, musical performer, dancer, singer, and television presenter, John Barrowman has performed extensively on Broadway, in London’s West End, and on television.  His TV credits include the role of Captain Jack Harkness in Doctor Who, and its spin-off Torchwood, as well as regular guest appearances on entertainment shows including Any Dream Will Do, and How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?

Animals at Work is a co-production between Media Productions (Frisky Business) Inc. and NF – Cineflix (Frisky Business) Inc. and is produced in association with the CBBC and Discovery HD.
