NORDIC REGION SNAPS UP VOLUME DEALS FROM CINEFLIX INTERNATIONAL

November 2007

Cineflix International, has announced a healthy batch of new deals with seven broadcasters within the Nordic territories managed by Sandra Piha, Sales Manager for the region, numbering in total a massive 135 hours of programming.

Kicking off with Finland, Channel 4 has bought 38 hours worth of programming from Cineflix International, starting with in-house production ExperiMental (20×30) which uses oddball experiments to show how science is part of our everyday lives.

The channel has also acquired the Channel 7 produced best-seller Border Security (24×30) which follows an expert team protecting Australia’s borders and all 3 series of Zero Hour (16×60) the show which dramatises the last hour leading up to some of the world’s most memorable historical events.

Also in Finland, YLE has picked up the first two series of Huge Moves a Windfall Films production in which teams of movers tackle almost impossible feats of engineering while trying to move colossal structures.

Slipping over the border into Sweden, TV4 has acquired more than 42 hours, starting again with the 1st and 2nd series of Channel 7’s Medical Emergency (35×30) which follows the staff and patients at a busy hospital emergency ward. TV4’s next choice was docudrama Jonestown: Paradise Lost (1×90) which looks into the mass murder and suicides of Jim Jones’ cult followers in Guyana in 1978.

TV4 has also bought Mayday series 5 (10×60) and the follow up, Mayday: Science of Disaster (3×60) which reveals how routine flights can end in disaster and how the industry then learns to make flying safer. Lastly, the channel has acquired the 1st and 2nd series of Huge Moves (7×60).

Also in Sweden, Kanal 5 has licensed 23 hours: third-party produced Machines of War (3×60) from Windfall Films which looks at major milestones in the development of weapons; Greatest Ever (8×60) a fast-paced, informative and irreverent approach to the marvels of modern technology; Ultimates (6×60) a technology series with attitude, which explores the science behind extreme speed and power; and last but not least, Channel 7’s Surf Patrol (13×30) which follows Australia’s world-famous lifesavers as they patrol the country’s beaches.

Still in Sweden, TV7 has bought the 1st series of True CSI (6×60) which pulls together the suspense of a ‘whodunit’ thriller with the punch of ‘you-are-there’ drama, while TV6 has the 1st series of Urban Legends (15×30) which presents three incredible stories as genuine documentary reports – even though only one is in fact true.

Finally, a deal has just been finalised with Sweden’s SVT for IWC Media production Russian Revolution in Colour (2×60) which vividly brings the revolution to life using dramatised recreations and extraordinary colourised archive footage.

Hopping across the water to Denmark, TV3 has gone for the 2nd series of Psychic Investigators (15×30) which looks at dramatic crimes that are solved by the combination of high-tech detective work and the paranormal powers of a psychic.

Sandra Piha, Sales Manager for the Nordic territories said: “The Nordic region is a hugely competitive area for factual programming, therefore the volume of deals we’ve closed clearly point to the sheer quality of our catalogue and the strong ratings they generate.”

Background: A growing distributor of factual entertainment, Cineflix International distributes over 180 hours of programming, including select third-party projects and original programs by Cineflix, a dynamic, independent television production company with a growing catalogue of history, science, documentary and lifestyle programs viewed by audiences in more than fifty countries.
