Cineflix's Mayday gets 5th commission with Psychics entering second season
February 01, 2007
February, 2007 : Cineflix, the Canada and London-based content production company, is celebrating the recent re-commissions for cornerstone properties, Mayday and Psychic Investigators.
The ever popular Mayday is first off – a show that has earned impressive ratings both with domestic and international audiences, and has now received its fifth commission, this time for a 10×60 min run. Total episodes in the Mayday series now number 45. The series is produced by Cineflix in association with Discovery Channel Canada, Canal D and the National Geographic Channel.
Mayday has proved a phenomenal success for Cineflix and its distribution arm, Cineflix International; it is National Geographic Channel International’s biggest rated series ever and has been licensed for a total of 30 separate territories worldwide across the last four series plus National Geographic Channels International’s footprint of 164 countries.
Mayday investigates both high-profile and little-known air disasters to uncover how and why they happened. Mayday takes viewers onboard a collection of different flights in trouble, recreating the tension and the pressure in the cockpit and cabin. These expertly-crafted dramatic re-enactments are based on cockpit voice recorders, flight data information and accident reports. News footage, interviews with key witnesses and computer graphics are also used to shed light on each flight.
Mayday also follows survivors, family members of victims and air crash detectives as they piece together the causes of each crash.
Executive Producers on series 5 are Greg Lanning, Simon Lloyd and Larry Bambrick and is Series Produced by Alexander Bystram.
Then, Psychic Investigators a 15×30 min series has been re-commissioned by Broadcasters The Biography Channel (US) and the W Network (Canada). The first series of Psychic Investigators also sold well, into a total of 10 territories.
The show, billed as “Where Crime Meets the Paranormal” is Exec Produced by Philip Whelan and Series Produced by Jacqueline Bynon.
Real-life detective thrillers take on a supernatural turn in Psychic Investigators, a documentary series about actual dramatic crimes that are solved through the unlikely combination of hi-tech detective work and the paranormal powers of a psychic.
In each episode, one amazing story is told from two very different points of view – the detective and the psychic. Featuring crimes committed around the world, Psychic Investigators juxtaposes the psychic’s story – coloured with emotion, empathy and mystery, with the cop’s tale – dominated by logic, evidence and reason. Each story features unique archive and compelling interviews with key characters.
