Canadian icon Farley Mowat featured in new series about Second World War premiering on History Television
April 06, 2005
Montreal, April 6, 2005 : Ten characters, ten dramatic stories, ten extraordinary days, all leading to the one historic event: the end of the biggest war the world has ever known. Combining large-scale reconstructions with traditional documentary storytelling, Ten Days to Victory evokes the climactic last moments of the Second World War.
Premiering on History Television on Monday, May 2 (8 P.M. ET), Ten Days to Victory interweaves the stories of ten very different people caught up in the liberation of Europe from the grip of Nazi terror. Their diaries, letters and interviews provide a unique insight into the dramatic events of some of the most gripping and terrifying days in history.
“War is an act of absolute lunacy… and it may be the most distinguishing feature of the human species as an animal,” said Farley Mowat, one of Canada’s most widely read authors, who served as a Canadian Captain in the War. Mowat’s daredevil mission to help save the lives of thousands of starving people while serving in Holland is one of the ten real-life stories recreated in the series. For Mowat, as for millions of others, the German surrender on 8th May 1945 marks the end of everything that has consumed their lives for six long years.
Co-produced by Cineflix and the UK production company 3BM Television, Ten Days to Victory is written and directed by Tim Conrad, and executive produced by Glen Salzman, André Barro, Katherine Buck, Stephen Hunter, Marion Milne and Dan Korn. Michael Kot is the Production Executive at History Television. A Canada-United Kingdom co-production, the series is produced in association with National Geographic Channels International and Mediaset, with the participation of the Canadian Television Fund created by the Government of Canada and the Canadian cable industry – CTF: License Fee Program, the Quebec Film and Television Tax Credit administered by SODEC and the Canadian Film or Video Tax Credit.
