Cineflix brings six new episodes of popular series Mayday to MIPCOM - First season flies high with viewers on National Geographic Channels International

July 14, 2004

Montreal, July 14, 2004: CINEFLIX will unveil six new 1-hour episodes of its popular series MAYDAY at MIPCOM announced Cineflix President André Barro. The dramatic non-fiction series about scientific investigations into notorious airline disasters, is co-produced by Cineflix and France’s Galaxie in association with Discovery Channel Canada, Canal D, France 5 and National Geographic Channel.

“The first season of MAYDAY did tremendously well on National Geographic Channels International. Audiences clearly responded to the high drama and hard facts of the first and we are convinced the new episodes will be equally as engrossing,” said André Barro.

“MAYDAY, titled Air Crash Investigations on National Geographic Channel, was one of our top-rated shows,” said Sydney Suissa, Executive Vice President of Content, National Geographic Channels International. “A record number of viewers tuned into the series in the U.K., Netherlands and Australia.”*

MAYDAY investigates recent high-profile airline crashes to uncover how and why they happened. The series takes viewers on board six different flights in trouble, recreating the tension in the cockpit and cabin moments before the disaster. News footage, interviews with key witnesses, and computer graphics of the planes in flight all shed light on the investigations and the safety issues that lie at the heart of aviation industry controversies.

André Barro is the Cineflix executive producer for MAYDAY, Bernard Vaillot is executive producer for Galaxie. The series producer is David Darlow. A Canada-France co-production, MAYDAY is co-produced by Cineflix and Galaxie, in association with Discovery Channel Canada, Canal D, France 5, National Geographic Channel and with the assistance of the Quebec Film and Television tax credit administered by SODEC, the Canadian Film and Video Tax Credit and the Government of Ontario – The Ontario Film & Television tax Credit.

Cineflix is a leading producer and distributor of popular non-fiction programming with offices in Montreal, Toronto, London and Dublin. Cineflix produces over 50 hours a year of factual entertainment with strong international appeal.
