True Crime Scene sheds light on real murder investigations

July 19, 2004

Montreal, July 19, 2004: Cineflix will showcase at MIPCOM 2004 three episodes of a new series about real murder investigations announced Cineflix Canada President André Barro.

“True Crime Scene is an exciting and unique series in that it offers an assortment of genres that appeal to a wide range of viewers,” said Barro. “The series combines fascinating, cutting-edge science, real investigation and accurate historical information with suspenseful dramatic reenactments, all appealing to viewers seeking powerful and dramatic stories based on fact.”

Each episode of True Crime Scene, beginning with a murder scene, offers an examination of clues, interviews with witnesses, and – based on theories put forward during the real investigation – scripted and dramatic re-enactments of how the crime may have unfolded. The major, final twist sees the murder recreated as it really happened, and the killer unmasked.

Murder investigations featured in the series include the ongoing investigation into the death of the wife of Dr. Sam Shepard, a story that became the basis for the television series and film The Fugitive, as well as the 1988 stabbing death of 20-year-old Lynette White in Cardiff Wales, a case that used new forensic techniques to convict the killer over a decade later; and the murder of a UK teenager in a French youth hostel, a case that used DNA to reveal the innocence of the man who falsely confessed to the crime.

True Crime Scene is co-produced by Cineflix and Galaxie in association with Discovery Canada, France 3, and other international partners, in collaboration with Stone City in the United Kingdom. A Canada-France co-production, True Crime Scene is produced with the participation of The Quebec Film and Television Tax Credit Administered by SODEC and the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit, as well as the Government of Ontario – the Ontario Film & Television Tax Credit, and the Centre National du Cinema. True Crime Scene is Executive Produced by Cineflix Productions’ President André Barro, Bernard Vaillot of Galaxie, and Bryn Higgins of Stone City. Ann Harbron is the Executive Producer for Discovery Channel Canada.

Cineflix is a leading producer and distributor of popular non-fiction programming with offices in Montreal, Toronto, London and Dublin. Cineflix produces over 50 hours a year of factual entertainment with strong international appeal.
