Can you separate fact from fiction?
May 25, 2007
We’ve all heard them but did you know some urban myths are actually the real deal? In the new series Urban Legends, premiering on the History Television on June 18, 2007 at 6 pm, viewers are challenged to spot which tall tale is fact, and which is fiction.
In each 30-minute episode of Urban Legends, three amazing tales are presented as fact; skillfully pieced together from archive, dramatic reconstruction and interviews to look like convincing, genuine documentary reports. The twist is that while one of the stories is completely true, the other two are scripted and played by actors living out popular urban myths. Viewers are challenged to decide which tale is true and which is not, offering an addictive format that tests the viewers’ gullibility, smarts and sense of humour.
In episode one, viewers must choose the real deal from three amazing stories: a junkie who was shot at close range and then miraculously coughed up the bullet, a German businessman who wakes from a night of partying to find he’s missing a kidney, and a gang leader who sends a new recruit on a deadly mission – but winds up dead himself.
“The key to the success of Urban Legends lies in the maxim – that truth is stranger than fiction,” said Series Producer Andy Scott. “Our true stories are just as astonishing and preposterous sounding as our fake ones. This series revels in the magic of storytelling and the irresistible draw of extreme trivia.”
Urban Legends Executive Producers are Simon Lloyd, Sam Linton and Katherine Buck. Producers are Glen Salzman, John Vandervelde and Tom Parkhouse. The Series Producer is Andy Scott. The series is a co-production of Cineflix productions (Legends) Inc., NF (Legends) Inc and Media Productions (Legends) Ltd. A Canada/United Kingdom co-production, produced in association with the History Television (Canada), The Biography Channel (U.S.) and Five (UK). Produced with the participation of the Canadian Film or Video Tax Credit, the Ontario Film & Television Tax Credit and the Quebec Film and Television Tax Credit Administered by SODEC.
