Birth Stories series debuts on LIFE - starting September 25, 2000

Toronto, August 25, 2000: A true and intimate look at how having a child changes lives, Birth Stories premieres Monday, September 25 at 10:30 pm ET/PT on the Life Network. The new reality TV series from Cineflix and PTV, Birth Stories follows 11 women and those closest to them as they journey through one of life’s most momentous and intimate experiences: pregnancy and childbirth.

Shot in a vérité documentary style, the stories are woven together in a way that points to the stark differences and startling similarities of the women’s experiences. Pregnancy has a way of throwing into relief the tenor of a marriage or relationship; economic status; the burdens of the past and the hopes for the future. Each family’s story unfolds over several episodes.

Birth Stories features:

Nature: a 23-year-old full-time student and newly single mother.

Tracy: a comfortably middle-class fitness instructor with a busy stockbroker for a husband.

Cheryl: a former stripper and crack addict now trying to turn her life around.

Cindy: a 42-year-old first-time mom trying to fit a new baby into the busy downtown bar she runs with her husband, Jack.

Julia: a dancer who performs up to the last weeks of her pregnancy.

Shirley: her first child was still-born and now eight months pregnant again, she anxiously awaits the birth of her second.

Birth Stories is co-produced by Cineflix and PTV Productions, in association with Life network, TVO, Knowledge Network, The Canadian Television Fund-License Fee Program and Telefilm Canada.
