Cineflix Studios Options It Could Be Worse, You Could Be Me

August 20, 2010

Cineflix Studios which announced its launch on July 19, and its appointment of Christina Wayne as President, has optioned It Could Be Worse, You Could Be Me, award-winning Sunday Times journalist Ariel Leve’s book published in April by HarperCollins and based on the hugely popular weekly London Sunday Magazine Times magazine column Cassandra. Joan Rivers described the book as having “An original and funny voice, the flipside of Sex and the City”; while Dani Shapiro said, “Ariel Leve is the literary love child of Larry David and Dorothy Parker.”

Leve wrote a pilot script based on the book. Chris Keyser (Party of Five, Lone Star) is attached to consult. The single-camera half-hour comedy is set in New York, and explores life’s absurdities viewed through the eyes of Cassandra, a late thirties singleton, trying to figure out how to make the best of her life after a great career was interrupted and it’s clear Mr. Big isn’t coming to the rescue. Cineflix will be taking the project out to US broadcasters this summer.

“I was immediately drawn to Ariel’s hilarious and unique voice that tells the honest story about what it’s like to be a single woman over 35, who is not afraid to tell it like it is,” says Cineflix Studios President Christina Wayne. “I love the character of Cassandra, who says all the things you think but might never say out loud. When Cassandra does say them, they are so true; you connect to her character on a very visceral level.”

The deal was brokered by Creative Artists Agency, Dan Halsted/Management and Rob Weisbach of Rob Weisbach Creative Management.

Cineflix Studios is part of the international media company Cineflix, a leader in bringing together a mix of global broadcast and production partners, major talent and key executives to get top quality original content produced and distributed for television and other emerging platforms.
