Falling in love on-line - eLove starts April 16 on W
March 18, 2002
March 18, 2002 – Falling in love on-line is one thing, but what happens when you actually meet? The new Cineflix series elove takes a raw, smart look at modern romance and the world of internet dating. This 13-part series follows couples as they make the dramatic leap from clicking on-line to connecting in person. Rife with hope, fear and the promise of romance, elove debuts on W Tuesday, April 16 at 8 p.m. ET/PT and repeats Saturday at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
“When people have an on-line relationship, they often believe they’re in love, but they haven’t met yet, so the personal stakes are huge,” says Cineflix president and elove co-executive producer Glen Salzman. “elove is not a gimmick, it’s not a blind date where people are set up to play a game, it is the way more and more people are meeting these days.”
Each half-hour episode zeros in on a relationship as it makes the unpredictable transition from a long-distance dream to a close-up reality. elove joins couples as they prepare to meet for the first time, travels with them to this key meeting and follows the emotional ups and downs of their first days together. A compelling and revealing take on the cyber-search for love, elove stories range from pure fun to poignant to amazing.
The first episode features Patti, an aspiring actress in Vancouver, and John, a Montreal businessman. After meeting Patti on-line, John starts racing home from work to check his email. They spend hours chatting on-line and often talk on the phone all night. By the time they arrange to meet in person the anticipation is intense. Maybe this will be the relationship they’re both seeking. The second episode revolves around Nathalie, a divorced Montrealer, and Lee, who lives in Northwest England. They’ve been laughing long-distance for months; to see if they click in person, Nathalie crosses the Atlantic.
“elove achieves a great synergy between television and the internet,” says Salzman. “Viewers can log onto elovetelevison.com where they’ll be able to try elove for themselves. Through a partnership between elove and match.com, one of the world’s biggest dating sites, they can fill-out their own personal profiles and join the on-line dating community. On-line, they’ll also find elove clips and tips on internet dating.”
André Barro is the executive in charge of elove and Glen Salzman is co-executive producer. Katherine Buck is the series creator and Cesca Eaton is series producer. elove is produced by Cineflix in association with W and with the participation of the Canadian Television Fund (LFP), Rogers Cable Network Fund and the Quebec Minister of Revenue Tax Credit Program and the Government of Canada Film Tax Credit Program and Bell New Media Fund. elove is a UK co-production with elove Productions Ltd. In the U.S., elove airs on Oxygen.
