Acquisitions Manager (Toronto)

The Company 

Cineflix Media creates, produces, and distributes popular factual and scripted content for the global market with operations in Montreal, Toronto, New York, London, and Dublin. Producing approximately 200 hours of internationally appealing programming per year across a wide range of genres, and with a growing catalogue of 4,500 hours, Cineflix is behind some of the most highly rated TV brands.

The Role

Cineflix is currently looking to fill the role of Acquisitions Manager. Reporting to, and supporting the SVP, North American Acquisitions, this is a full-time, permanent position based out of our Toronto office. 

With a focus on Canada and the North American market, the Acquisitions Manager will have an integral role in sourcing and managing third-party producer clients along with their valued programming content.

Duties & Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Establish, build and maintain strong relationships with third-party producers. Answer all queries from producers and key internal departments (sales/marketing/legal) in a timely manner.
  • In conjunction with SVP, actively source new programming from the roster of Canadian producers. 
  • Use commercial knowledge to evaluate new program submissions and make recommendations to the SVP.
  • Plan and present program pitches at bi-weekly internal meetings.

Operational management

  • Work closely with the finance team to compile cases for management approval, and continue to liaise with Finance regarding royalties and payment schedules as applicable.  
  • Maintain a record of all acquisitions-related activities in the acquisitions and sales management databases.
  • Prepare and circulate offer letters and distribution information sheets, liaising with Business Affairs on commercial terms to see agreements through to signature.
  • Liaise with the marketing department to ensure successful program launch strategies.

Account Management

  • Maintain day-to-day communication with all producers and attend meetings to review development slates.
  • Alongside the SVP, manage feedback on development deal slates and their pitch materials (sizzles/treatments), resolving any queries in a timely manner.
  • Ensure effective account management for all producer partners including tracking the delivery of programs and materials, keeping internal teams updated.  
  • Create detailed post-market reports (MIPCOM & MIPTV) to include qualitative and quantitative feedback on sales activity to distribute to third-party producers.
  • Keep up to date with TV trends in the market and provide relevant feedback to internal customers as well as to third-party producers.

The Person

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in the TV sector, two of which in acquisitions
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organized, strong time management skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to travel to and to industry markets and to meet with North American clients on a regular basis 
  • Highly numerate
  • Proficient with Excel, comfortable working with databases
  • Team player, strong communicator, enthusiastic
